Biog – who am I? Not sure I know.

I am a scientist and former Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences and of Pre-clinical Medicine at UCL. Now retired and living in South West France where I spend my time in photography, electronics, minor works of engineering and enjoying nature. I am lucky to live on the edge of an ancient giant oak forest, The Gresigne, which is surrounded by flower meadows and a ‘Bio’ trial zone where the use of most agro-chemicals is forbidden. The area is considered one of great scientific interest and is home to an incredible range of insect, bird, reptile, amphibian and mammalian species. Though there are significant threats to it, it is protected under the EU statutes of Natura 2000. Compared with Northern France and Southern England, it is teaming with life. It is a privilege to live here. The peoples of my local villages; Penne and Vaour are both lovely, varied and idiosyncratic! The one thing they all have in common is a great love of our area. They all are keen to see it thrive economically but also to retain its great natural beauty and wealth of species.
